Seki City ~more than 700 years of history of cutlery production~

Seki City has more than 700 years of history of cutlery production. The history has its origin in Kamakura era (1185A.D.-1333A.D.).At that time, the famous swordsmith MOTOSHIGE moved to Seki City and spread his swordsmith skills.Since Seki City has beautiful nature such as very clear water, vast forest where they can acquire the rich pine charcoal and fertile land, it was the suitable place for sword making and so more than 300 swordsmith lived and produced the best Samurai swords during Muromachi era (1336A.D.-1573A.D.).
